It’s in the details…and the moon
Some people think using the moon as energy or guidance is woo. But, God made the moon and he made it powerful enough to change and control tides, so maybe there is something there for us too. Did you know that if you are a woman without a cycle, you can use the moon cycle to track yours? My mind was blown when I learned this last year. I was 48 years old when I learned that our cycles also have phases with different purposes and meanings to us and learning about them and tracking them can help guide us through the months.
It’s just another whisper of how God uses everything and every detail - no matter how small - makes a big difference. We are going to address how we can use the details of month and the moon to bring about clarity, understanding, calm, energy, and change.
The cycle according to the moon:
🌑 New Moon (Menstrual Phase - Estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest levels | Days 1–5)
Theme: Rest, Reflect, Renew
Energy: Low
Best For: Setting intentions, journaling, inner reflection, visioning
You might feel: Tired, inward, introspective
Focus on: Rest, reflection, intention-setting
Like winter, this is your most inward phase—honor rest and clarity.
🌒 Waxing Crescent to First Quarter (Follicular Phase Estrogen rises steadily | Days 6–13)
Theme: Build, Begin, Grow
Energy: Rising
Best For: Starting new projects, brainstorming, planning, creating
You might feel: Energetic, inspired, clear-headed
Focus on: Planning, starting new projects, learning
Like spring, this is a time for fresh starts and creative energy.
🌕 Full Moon (Ovulation Phase Estrogen peaks/Testosterone rises | Days 14–17)
Theme: Celebrate, Connect, Shine
Energy: High
Best For: Socializing, pitching ideas, visibility, manifesting
You might feel: Social, confident, magnetic
Focus on: Visibility, collaboration, pitching ideas, intimacy
Like summer, you’re magnetic—use this energy outwardly.
🌘 Waning Gibbous to Last Quarter (Luteal Phase Progesterone rises/Estrogen dips, then slightly rises again mid-phase | Days 18–28)
Theme: Reflect, Refine, Release
Energy: Waning
Best For: Finishing tasks, evaluating progress, letting go
You might feel: Sensitive, focused, analytical—then more tired or irritable premenstrually
Focus on: Completion, evaluation, setting boundaries, self-care
Like fall, this is a time to tie up loose ends and prepare to turn inward again.
Tracking your cycle with the moon helps you align with natural rhythms, honor your energy, and live with more intention.
The night sky holds many secrets, and among its most potent mysteries is the new moon—a time of darkness, potential, and powerful beginnings. Unlike the full moon, when energy is at its peak, the new moon is quiet and still, offering us a sacred pause and a chance to plant the seeds of our future.
🌑 What Is the New Moon?
The new moon occurs when the moon sits between the Earth and the Sun, making it invisible to the naked eye. Astronomically, it marks the beginning of the lunar cycle. Symbolically, it represents renewal, intention, and fresh starts. Just like the moon begins a new cycle, so can you.
🌱 Why the New Moon Matters Spiritually
In many traditions, the moon governs emotions, intuition, and inner life. During the new moon, energy is low and introspective, making it an ideal time for reflection and setting intentions. Think of it like tilling the soil before planting—this is your moment to get clear about what you want to grow in the coming weeks.
The new moon is a powerful time to align with your goals and reframe your mindset. It’s about vision more than action, feeling over doing.
🌑 What to Do During a New Moon
Here are some intentional practices to harness the energy of the new moon:
1. Set Intentions
Write down 3–5 clear, heartfelt goals you'd like to manifest this lunar cycle. Be specific, present-tense, and aligned with your values. For example:
“I am confident in expressing my creative voice.”
“I attract aligned opportunities for growth.”
2. Journal or Reflect
Use prompts like:
What am I ready to begin?
What beliefs do I need to release to grow?
Where do I want to be in one month?
Let your answers guide your intentions.
3. Cleanse Your Space
Energetically clear out your space by decluttering or burning herbs like sage or palo santo. This symbolizes making room for the new.
4. Visualize
Spend 5–10 minutes visualizing your intentions already fulfilled. How does it feel? Who are you in that reality? This strengthens your energetic alignment.
5. Create a Ritual
This can be as simple or elaborate as you’d like. Light a candle, meditate, and speak your intentions aloud. Ritual gives form to your desires and tells your subconscious, “This matters.”
6. Rest & Reset
Don’t feel pressure to do too much. The new moon is quiet. You may feel tired, introspective, or more emotional. This is normal—honor it.
🌑 Why It Works
While skeptics may see lunar practices as symbolic, intention-setting under the new moon combines psychology, mindfulness, and habit formation. When you consistently align your goals with a natural rhythm (like the lunar cycle), you create structure, emotional buy-in, and a timeline for growth.
Also, committing to pause and check in with yourself monthly is powerful. It builds self-trust and resilience, even if your goals shift.
🌕 From New Moon to Full Moon
The intentions you plant during the new moon begin to grow throughout the lunar cycle. By the full moon (about 14 days later), you’ll start to see results—or insights—reflecting your efforts. That’s the time to release, recalibrate, and harvest the energy you’ve built.
The new moon is a sacred invitation to start again—with clarity, softness, and quiet strength. If you feel off-track or uninspired, this is your cosmic permission slip to reset and begin anew.
So tonight, when the sky goes dark, remember: there is magic in the void. The future begins in silence.
