Berry Refreshing
Easy Berry Trifle
My in laws came up to spend the 4th of July with us at the lake. We did all the things - boating, swimming, watching USA World Cup Soccer, and fireworks. And of course there were hot dogs…and this amazing dessert that my amazing sister in law and niece made. It was delicious. And I am stealing it (but sharing with you because it is just too good).
This Berry Trifle is the perfect no-fuss dessert for summer gatherings, backyard BBQs, or anytime you need something light, sweet, and crowd-pleasing. It’s beautiful in a glass bowl, easy to assemble, and tastes like summer in every bite.
🍓 Ingredients
1 prepared white cake, pound cake, or angel food cake (store-bought or homemade), cut into cubes
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
2 cups fresh blueberries
1 (3.4 oz) box vanilla instant pudding mix
2 cups cold milk
1 (8 oz) tub Cool Whip, thawed
Optional: extra berries or mint for garnish
🍨 Instructions
1. Make the pudding layer
In a large bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until smooth and thickened (about 2–3 minutes).
Gently fold in the Cool Whip until fully combined and creamy.
2. Prep the cake
Cut your chosen cake (white cake, pound cake, or angel food cake) into bite-sized cubes.
3. Start layering
In a large glass trifle dish (or any clear bowl), begin layering:
Cake cubes
A layer of vanilla pudding mixture
Strawberries and blueberries
Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with pudding and a generous layer of berries on top.
4. Chill
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2–4 hours (overnight is even better). This allows the flavors to blend and the cake to soften slightly.
5. Serve & enjoy
Top with extra berries or a sprig of mint right before serving for a fresh, beautiful finish.
✨ Tips & Variations
Swap in raspberries or blackberries for extra color and flavor
Add a drizzle of honey or berry syrup between layers for extra sweetness
Use vanilla Greek yogurt in place of part of the pudding for a lighter version
Serve in individual cups for easy entertaining
This Berry Trifle is simple, refreshing, and always a hit - especially during hot Texas summers when you want dessert without turning on the oven.
